“Seeing more diverse beauty in the media should have such a positive impact on everybody’s self esteem. We tend to compare ourselves to the representation of beauty which is shown to us constantly, when, to me, beauty is found in people that you wouldn’t normally see in magazines. Beauty is about your personality, your character, your life and how you reflect it all. I find older people incredibly expressive and beautiful and that is the kind of beauty I want to aspire to. This is the message I tried to express with my graffitti project. I based my work on photographs from Katy Grannan‘s exhibition “anonymous” selecting portraits of people I found interesting. I then created illustrations trying to highlight the beauty and personality in each of the characters. Grannies are cool and should be celebrated.“
